Rosewood and Brass Polescreen

With silk on silk embroidered panel.
The reeded and spiral twist column on a triangular bass
with brass detail and supported on brass bun feet.

Such screens would have been found in the drawing room
and were adjustable to raise or lower the decorative panel.
Their puropse was to protect the face from the heat
of the fire or from the sunlight sitting by a window.

Early 19th Century.
