NEDEL I ROVGHT THE / SAME AND IF MY NEDEL /
HAD BEEN BETTER I WOULD / HAVE MENDED IT. HR’.

Many band samplers embroidered during the 17th century bear neither a name
or date. It is therefore very desirable when a signed sampler of this period which
also is inscribed with an amusing verse becomes available. Worked in coloured
silks on an unbleached linen ground. The limited number of stitches used would
indicate that Hannah was quite young when she undertook her embroidery.
