A brightly coloured woolwork sampler with a naive charm. Various buildings are depicted including Solomon's temple with potted plants, figures etc contained within a strawberry border.

Seaton Sluice ( Northumberland ) Finished April 8th 1824
Worked in fine wool on unbleached linen. This attractive sampler is embroidered with a large three masted sailing ship with a long verse reflecting on the dangers of life at sea. The year in which this sampler was completed is significant as the National Institution for the Prevention of Life from Shipwreck, was founded March 4 1824. At this time this part of the Northumberland coastline had more shipwrecks than any other place.
Contained in a period maple frame.

Lucy Collins. 1845.
The unusual verse on this sampler is titled 'Inscription on a Sundial..' It has been worked on a fine cream wool ground with bright crewel wool thread.

Eliza Jane Simpson. Aged 12. 1841
A large and soporific tiger dominates this sampler staring solemnly out of the canvas with black bead eyes. Above this the top cartouche depicts one of the most popular pets of 19th century England, a King Charles spaniel.

Worked entirely in crinkled floss silk this dramatic sampler depicts Adam and Eve either side of the Tree of Life and within a saw cut border. The naive imagery gives a total charm to this unusual sampler.

Needlelace Sampler.
An exceptional mid 16th Century Italian needlelace sampler worked with horizontal bands of cutwork and reticella with stylized flower heads and geometric motifs. Each corner finished with hand knotted tassels.
