| Mid 17th Century Band Sampler. English.
The most striking feature of this fine 17th century band sampler is the intense colour of the rich floss silks with which it has been stitched using cross,satin,double running, knots, detached buttonhole , long and short, long armed cross and eyelet stitch on unbleached linen.

Hannah Harper. 1848.
A rare sampler with a very long faultlessly executed text worked in mixed media with a vibrant floral beaded border. Extravagantly beaded clothing was popular during this period and this sampler reflects the fashion of the time.

| Janet Dunlop Begbie. 1808. Edinburgh.
Janet Begbie was born in Edinburgh Parish, Edinburgh, Midlothian, on 14th November 1797 the daughter of William Begbie and Martha Gibb Like many Scottish samplers it provides us with quite a lot of family information.

Walker Family Record. Framingham. Middlesex County, Massachusetts. 1822.
Wonderfully worked in vibrantly rich floss silks this sampler records details of births, marriages and deaths of the family of Matthias Walker and his wife Jane Moulton. Begun and signed in 1822 by their daughter Mary the sampler spans the years until the death of her sister Jane in 1876.
Framed size: 63 x 68cm (25 x 27 ins).

Caroline Williams. Her Work 1834.
A most attractive sampler meticulously embroidered with brightly coloured fine silks on
a cream wool ground. A broad undulating geometric floral border forms the surround
enclosing , stately buildings numerous birds, animals, fruiting trees, Adam and Eve and
Royal Beasts.

An exceptional sampler finely embroidered in coloured silks. An extravagant and freely worked floral border surrounds the meticulously stitched text. Probably worked under Quaker influence.

It is unusual for an English sampler to depict the Crucifixion, adding to the interest of this sampler. Worked in coloured silks on a cream wool ground.
