Pupils at Ackworth School made similar pinballs or pincushions as this example to give as gifts or for sale to supplement their pocket money. The use of just two colours is typical of such schoolwork as is the vine leaf wreath and the pair of confronting birds.

A fine bobbin lace sampler worked with a bands of geometric designs. The top band worked with sea horses.
