Worked with coloured silks on a smooth satin- weave silk ground. Two other identical maps of Ireland, also dated 1810 are in the collection of what is now known as The Mount School, York.

Maryanna Dalphin, First half 19th century.
An outstanding and most unusual sampler worked with brightly coloured silks . Within an oval cartouche, surrounded by scrolling flowers and leaves are written lines from the 23rd Psalm along with a dedication from Maryanna's teacher. These combine to make the sampler both personal and charming.

Brown Family Memorial Sampler. Circa 1835.
Memorial and family register samplers were for some reason more popular in America than England. A note on the reverse of the sampler tells us that it was embroidered by Anna Maria Brown (1822 - 1900).
